AN INTRODUCTION…

Hey, everyone. I’m Doug Browning, and I write books.

Welcome to my first blog.

I thought the best place to start would be by introducing you to my first novel, Gray Inside.

Gray Inside follows an eleven-year-old girl named Danielle Lloyd—Dani—who hears things that other people can’t.

Dani experiences the world differently from everyone around her. Crowded classrooms, busy stores, even ordinary conversations can become overwhelming because she seems to be able to pick up on the thoughts and emotions of the people around her.

But she doesn't know what it means.

Is it intuition? Is there something psychologically wrong with her? Or is she experiencing something that has nothing to do with either of those things?

Then Dani discovers something that changes everything.

Her beloved cat has been brutally murdered and left hanging from a tree outside her home.

And from that point on, strange things begin happening.

Her mother becomes terrified. Her psychologist seems to know more than he's willing to tell her. Strange lights begin appearing in storm clouds. Dani experiences missing time and vivid nightmares. People around her begin getting mysteriously sick.

And everywhere she turns, people tell her the same thing:

Let it go.

But Dani refuses.

The deeper she digs into what happened to her cat, the more she realizes that the mystery doesn't end in her quiet Kansas neighborhood.

There are secrets hidden in the night sky.

Secrets her mother has spent years trying to bury.

And the truth behind them may be far more frightening than any monster.

That's Gray Inside.

It's a story about isolation, obsession, and the terrifying possibility that we're never truly alone.

What I really love about horror is the idea that something frightening doesn't necessarily have to jump out of the darkness. Sometimes the scariest thing is simply realizing that the world you've thought you understood might not be what you thought it was.

So that's what I want to explore here on this channel: horror, literature (of all kinds, really), writing, movies, and the process of creating these stories.

I'll be talking about my own writing, including Gray Inside and the novel I'm currently working on (Smother). I am an author and avid reader. My focus is on all kinds of bookish things. This channel will be used for connecting with my possible audience through the discussion of classic literature and horror fiction.

I am currently taking on two reading projects right now, the first being to read a horror book, or at least psychologically dark book, from every country on the planet and review each of them on this channel, so if that sounds interesting to you, give this video a like and give me a subscribe, because it helps me a great deal. I can tell you I will be working on videos for my selections from Argentina (Tender is the Flesh by Augustina Bazterrica), Spain (Victorian Psycho by Virginia Fieto), and Japan (No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai). I am an American, so I’ve read plenty of stuff from here. If you have suggestions of great books from your country, please let me know in the comments.

I am also intending to read Stephen King’s entire body of work. I’m a pretty big fan of his, and I can say I’ve probably read about thirty of his books, and I hope to keep that growing. I’ll be posting a lot of videos on King’s work. Soon I’ll try to have videos up for Carrie, The Long Walk, and The Running Man.

So if that sounds like something you'd be interested in, I'd love for you to stick around.

I'm glad you're here. Please feel free to sign up for my newsletter over on the main page. There will be giveaways!
